Inside India | Volunteering

image20/08/2015 | Namaste!!

Every morning we go to the local primary school to deliver our lessons to our classes. This is one of our favourite things as the children are so welcoming and eager to learn.

We have to develop our own lesson plans every afternoon using resources from the volunteer house, and there is no photocopier so we have to do everything by hand using carbon paper!

After lunch we take part in either Hindi lessons, which are really helpful or Meena Ji (our wonderful cook) gives us cooking lessons. So far we have been taught how to make Chai Tea, chapatti, paratha and Naan Bread!!

At 5pm every afternoon we go to the boys orphanage where we play games. The boys have a very structured daily routine so for these 2 hours they get to play and let off steam......and so do we! So far this has included football, cricket (which gets very competitive), Paddy has a small group of boys he does boxing training with (his idea but they love it!), magic tricks, handshakes and various other games. We have noticed the boys wear the same clothes (which helps us to recognise them) and they can run around on the stoney ground without any shoes on!

The evening is either free time, a movie night, journal writing or more lesson planning. However, this evening we went out to a local ice-cream parlour to celebrate Emma and Ed receiving their exam results.

Driving on the roads at night is even more of a white knuckle experience than during the day! In India, there appears to be no rules on the road except beep your horn and avoid the cows!!

Our Inside India experience is truly amazing, it is hard to put into words how much we are learning!
