Statement from our Participation Apprentice | JOHN

My name is John I am YLF’s Participation Apprentice. I have been a member of Young Lives for about 3 years and been going to the MCYPC as well. I love being a part of the team and making a difference. “Making a difference”, when people read that or hear that they think of emergency services or Special Forces. Well it’s not just about saving lives it’s about changing them and that is what The Young Lives Foundation does.

My job role whilst being the Participation Apprentice is to represent over 400 children across Medway. There is a meeting called MCYPC (Medway Children Young People Council) to get the young people’s opinions and views across to Medway Council. This is important to me personally because before I joined the MCYPC I thought that Medway council weren’t that important and didn’t do anything. But my opinion has changed – they make a difference like the new leisure passes, improving support for care leavers and organising charity football matches against social workers and the police.

I strive to make a difference and help young people with whatever they need help with. My journey so far has been exciting and challenging and with the help of the YLF team I feel I am growing in confidence and knowledge.  If you have any issues you would like to raise let me know. I’m looking forward to hear from all of you amazing people.

As part of National Apprenticeship week I decided to share my journey so far as YLF’s Participation Apprentice. Read it here now!

Statement from a previous Apprentice | KARLEIGH

KP pic“My name is Karleigh, I was YLF’s  Participation Apprentice. I have been a member of the MCYPC since September 2016 and still continue to attend meetings now. During my apprenticeship I got to meet lots of young people, which I loved, as well as being lucky enough to have the opportunity to hear different views and stories from the young people I was representing.  I thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship; achieving so much with you all and now cannot wait to support the MCYPC further!  I look forward to seeing more of you at the MCYPC meetings”

As Vice Chair I look forward to hearing other peoples views and opinions and helping make the changes that need to be made to those that need it, as well as sharing my own views. I have enjoyed being a member of the MCYPC and meeting everyone involved. With the help of the MCYPC I have grown in confidence and I hope to do the same for others. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the MCYPC and I can’t wait to get more involved!”
