Remembering Clive Emson MBE
A Tribute from YLF
A Tribute from YLF

We are deeply saddened by the news that our charity President, Clive Emson MBE, passed away on 13 May 2026. However, we take comfort in knowing that Clive died peacefully at his family home in the beautiful Kent countryside.
Clive was instrumental in the YLF journey, and we will be forever grateful for his loyalty, support, and invaluable contribution over the past 19 years. As our founding Chairman, Clive played a critical role in shaping the charity’s vision. He was a dedicated advocate and pioneer, committed to ensuring that all young people had the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Through his stewardship and guidance, he helped turn that vision into a reality, and his legacy remains deeply embedded in our day-to-day work, continuing to impact lives across Kent.
Reflecting Clive’s pragmatic approach and willingness to get stuck in, he not only led the organisation at governance level, but also volunteered his time directly as a Befriender for children in care. He provided much-needed stability, consistency, and support to the young people he worked with. As a volunteer, he went far beyond expectations, remaining in contact with many of the young people long after the formal volunteering had ended. He welcomed them like family, opened doors, and created opportunities – something we know continues to be valued and appreciated to this day.
Clive also had a great passion for fundraising and, once again, led from the front. He hosted numerous dinners, gala events, and fundraising initiatives on our behalf, helping to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to support our work and enable positive change in the lives of so many.
Perhaps these are the memories that so many will hold most fondly – remembering Clive centre stage on the rostrum, entertaining the room with his charisma, sense of humour, and quick wit. These were the moments when Clive truly shone, and they are memories we will cherish forever.
In more recent years, Clive’s loyalty to YLF never wavered. Most recently, he established the Clive Emson Fund at YLF, providing hardship funding for children and families who, as he so often said, “need a little helping hand”.
Clive was not only a remarkable volunteer, Trustee, President, and Ambassador for YLF, but also a mentor to many of us. Always approachable, his wise words and supportive advice invariably struck the right note, and his timing was often impeccable. Clive’s charitable heart and business mind were a perfect combination, and he will be greatly missed by us all.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Clive’s family and all those who loved him. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy – one we are incredibly proud to carry forward in his memory.
