Mental Health Charity of the Year

YLF becomes winner of 'Mental Health Charity 2024' at Kent Charity Awards!

We are incredibly proud to announce that YLF were crowned winners of ‘Mental Health Charity of the Year 2024’ at the Kent Charity Awards Gala Event last week!

At the glittering gala in Rochester, over 35 charities gathered to celebrate the impact they have made in the community. It was an honor to be invited as a charity finalist alongside so many dedicated charity staff, volunteers and trustees from all corners of Kent and Medway.

YLF was a finalist in the ‘Mental Health Charity’ category alongside the incredible West Kent Mind and Emerge Advocacy, so to receive this significant achievement is a wonderful tribute of the consistent hard work across our teams of staff and volunteers. To receive this accolade and recognition, at a time when children and young people’s mental health is of great concern is a real testament of the difference and impact we make.

“As we continue to make progress towards being a ‘trauma informed charity’, it is an affirming recognition that our ‘non-clinical approach’ programmes can truly make a profound difference on the emotional well-being of the young people we support. This reaches into every element of YLF (Listen – Support – Empower) and this award is for each and every one of our staff and volunteers – they should all be feeling incredibly proud.” – YLF CEO, Stephen Gray

What’s more, we received not just one award….but two! Our very own volunteer, Mr Mike Lowrey, was crowned ‘Volunteer of the Year 2024’ for his service to the Appropriate Adult role across the Kent County over the last 29 years! A very proud (and moving) moment for us to see Mike receive his award.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the founders, judges and sponsors at Kent Charity Awards, and to congratulate all award winners and overall Kent Charity of the Year winner,  Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services (ADSS).

We look forward to celebrating and sharing our achievements with our team and volunteers and hope that these awards will help encourage more people to volunteer for YLF or partner with us so we can continue to listen, support and empower young people to thrive!
