Inside India | CiCC Prepare To Go Overseas

India_SMALLIn exactly a months time, 9 members of Medway’s Children in Care Council (CiCC) will be setting off on a life changing overseas volunteering experience to Udaipur, India with The Young Lives Foundation and Basti Ram.

india orphanageFor 2 weeks, our CiCC members will be designing their own lesson plans for teaching in a local primary school, working in an orphanage for boys and generally experiencing life in whole new culture. At the same time all 9 will be working towards an ASDAN qualification, as well as learning a huge amount about themselves and other people.

David, Chairperson of the CiCC writes, “I am nervous but excited about the India experience….but who wouldn't be. I feel I am ready for this challenge and I bastifeel I am ready to go beyond my own boundaries. This experience is going to be life changing as I may never get this chance again. I am looking forward to everything we will be doing in India and helping make a difference to these children for the short while we are there. I think I will learn to respect what I have in life and I think I will see things in a totally different way when I'm back. Being someone who has never even been in a plane before, I think I'm in for a very steep learning curve!”

We fly out on 14th August and will be updating THIS BLOG from now until our return, when we are looking to present to teams of social care staff in Medway and beyond about what we have gained from this experience. So watch this space for more!
