Mentoring Referrals

Use this page to access information regarding the referral criteria of our Mentoring Programmes and our Referral Form

Our Mentoring Programmes

Our Mentoring Programmes are available to young people who are identified as vulnerable, i.e., those exposed to risks and poor outcomes because of individual characteristics, the impact of action or inaction by other people and their physical and/or social environment.

Mentoring Themes

All referrals are categorised according to three themes:

Criteria and Thresholds

Further details of criteria and thresholds below. Please refer to these before start completing the referral form.

Please remember that young people are at the center of our service delivery. YLF’s Mentoring Programmes are completely independent and only account for young people’s needs, which are paramount. Despite liaising with families, agencies and support services, these do not take part in our delivery programmes.

Before you refer a young person to a Mentoring Programme, please consider the following:

  • The ascertainable wishes and feelings of the young person concerned, considered in light of age and understanding
  • The young person’s physical, emotional and educational needs
  • Age, sex, gender, background and any relevant characteristics
  • Any suffered harm or is at risk of suffering
  • Family environment, circumstances and impact on the young person

All referrals require understanding and knowledge of the above and need to be completed with relevant information and complete details. The below criteria outlines what is in scope. Anything that does not fall within the boundaries of what is being specified, is considered out of scope and, therefore, not eligible for mentoring support.
