Fishing Trip Fun
A group of pupils from New Line Learning Academy, Maidstone, put their fishing skills to the test at Chart Hill Lake!
The young people were ready and raring to go - some young people were new to fishing and others were rather skilled in this area - but well prepared to have some fishing fun!
With our minibus full of excited young people, we headed to Chart Hill lake in Chart Sutton - somewhere new for everyone! We all received a safety briefing, our equipment and each young person was paired up with an experienced fisherman. They were thrilled to have one to one tuition for the day!
After an enjoyable morning fishing the young people had a BBQ lunch followed by some fresh cream cakes. They then headed back to the lake to be presented with a certificate for their fishing efforts. All of the young people caught plenty of fish throughout the day and two lads even got medals - one for catching the most fish and the other was for catching the biggest fish that was a whopping 16lb! Overall everyone had a great day learning a new skill and finding out all about the different types of fish.
John, one of the fishermen tutoring the pupils said, "The young person I have been paired with has more experience than me! He’s able to teach me new things too so this is great!”
"It was a really good day! I love fishing and enjoyed it all.” Owen, age 14.
“It was so good - I never knew how many types of fish there were!” Tom, age 13.
“Can we have another trip like that!?” Bobby, age 14.
