YLF & NLL Head To Hastings!
The lure of the beach proved too much for the 38 year 7 students from New Line Learning Academy, Maidstone (NLL). The pupils travelled to Hastings with YLF to visit the Smugglers Caves and the Blue Reef Aquarium.
The dark tunnels held the students attention with exhibits on the efficiency of pulleys, with one young man sharing,”I was amazed that having three extra wheels on the rope made it so much easier to pull the weight up”. The information that there was once duty to be paid on the import of tea made some of them laugh.
Before going into the Aquarium we made the best of the sunshine and had our packed lunch on the beach with the obligatory pebble throwing into the sea taking place. A few of the 12 year olds apparently benefitted from skimming tuition with one lad admitting that it was the first time that anyone had shown him how to bounce a flat stone off the water up to 6 times.
The Blue Reef Aquarium was a success too , Abbie said, ”The tube under the water was great, maybe I'll be a diver when I'm older”. Others enjoyed the hands on session with a snake and two Bearded Dragons.
On exiting the aquarium the students opted for more stone throwing on the beach but this time with paddling too!
