WALES | Just the start…
A group of excited young people and staff met at the YLF office at 8am on Wednesday 6th April and after the van was loaded with all of our stuff, we piled onto the mini bus and headed on our long journey to the Kent Mountain Centre in Wales.
There was a lot of chatter on the bus, and young people were set a task of counting the number of lorries we passed, reaching 272 before losing count! We had a long journey, with a few stops on the way, and finally reached our destination at 3.30 pm.
We met Mike and Mary, our 2 instructors from the Kent Mountain Centre, and after we had been kitted out with waterproofs and boots which we would need for the next few days, found our rooms and took all our stuff in from the van, we headed down for dinner of pizza and potato wedges.
After dinner, we headed off for our night hike. After a short mini bus trip, we all climbed out and headed up the slate mountain in Llanberis.
The weather was cold and it even hailed whilst we were at the top! But this didn’t dampen spirits and we enjoyed the views overlooking the town.
After spending a couple of hours hiking, we climbed onto the mini bus and headed back for much needed hot drinks!
