YLF Help Student Social Workers Tick The Right Boxes!
YLF were delighted to be able to provide a workshop as part of the BA Social Work Course at The University of Kent, Medway.
Our very own CEO, Stephen Gray, gave a presentation this week on how ‘YLF Enable Children’s Voices To Be Heard'. The aim of the talk was to inform professionals of the qualities young people would like them to have and how they would like to be supported. Stephen reflected on years' of experiences we have had as an organisation with children and young people in the care system and used their direct feedback to help the students recognise good practice and to inform their own practice once qualified.
Mary Smith, Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Kent said, “The talk was exactly what I had hoped for. The students have had plenty of input around process and procedure and the talk that they received this morning will help them recognise the young person at the centre of the process and to support them as social workers".
Students also gave feedback, with one stating that the presentation was ‘inspirational’ and one she will try to remember when she qualifies!
