Our whole staff team are now Mental Health First Aid trained!
We are proud to share that our entire staff team are now qualified Youth Mental Health First Aiders!
With thanks to training from Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA) and MIND, we are much better equipped and knowledgeable in supporting young people, volunteers and each other’s wellbeing. The course covered skills for providing first aid to young people who may be experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and psychosis.
Research published recently stated that 71% of young people reported a negative impact on their wellbeing and mental health over the last 12 months during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is increasing demand for YLF’s services to support the mental health and emotional resilience of young people, and this is something we have been preparing for over the previous 6 months. We are delighted to have been able to provide quality training to our staff in preparation.
It is clear the pandemic has had a short term impact on young people, for many reasons, and the longer term impact is something we continue to prepare for.
We continue to look at ways we can share good practice, build skills and ensure we provide the best support we can to our young people and more so those who may be experiencing mental health issues. We are also looking at the most effective way to roll out continued training to our YLF volunteers.
Our MHFA qualification logo will shortly be added to our website and promotional materials – keep your eyes peeled!
