Fresh Start in Folkestone

YLF is delighted to launch a new mentoring programme for young people and families in need across the Folkestone and Shepway area.

The mentoring programme uses local people to act as volunteer mentors to support young people to engage in education, reduce anti-social behaviour and find employment and training opportunities.

With start-up funding from Colyer-Fergusson, YLF is now in partnership with Kent County Council, Shepway District Council, Folkestone Academy and Shepway Troubled Families Team to increase its well established presence in Shepway.

Damian CollinsDamian Collins MP has pledged to raise awareness and funds to support the mentoring programme by launching a community walk. The walk from Dungeness Lighthouse to Short Step Memorial Arch will take place on 28th February.

Damian said, "I will be attempting to walk the length of Shepway to raise awareness and funds for YLF for the expansion of this important service. The mentoring programme will help to build self-esteem, confidence and motivation in some of our district's most vulnerable young people."
