National Volunteers Week is an annual celebration in June across the entire country, dedicated to celebrating and thanking volunteers.
Every day, between 1st-7th June, we used our social media platforms to showcase our appreciation for all of the hard work, time and the positive impact that our YLF Volunteers make! Here is what we shared:
YLF’s Befriending service has supported a total of 84 young people since October 2022… Overall, that’s around 1340 hours of their own time that our volunteers have given up to help make a difference to young people in their communities.
Our Accompanying Adults support young people throughout the process of determining their age, as it can be quite traumatic for them. A number of young people who come from other countries do not know their true age. Their birth is not registered in the same way it is in England. The young person may know roughly how old they are but not with any certainty. Our Accompanying Adults have supported 18 young people over the last year, ensuring that they all understood their rights and the procedures in age assessments.
YLF’s Mentoring team recently reached their Head Start Kent target of 465 mentoring arrangements, one month prior to the contract end date! That is an unbelievable achievement!
Our volunteer Appropriate Adults ensure that young people understand their rights and entitlements whilst they are in police custody, just knowing that the volunteer is there for them can make all the difference. Over the past year our Appropriate Adults have supported, 1,230 vulnerable people and 528 juveniles whilst in police custody or giving voluntary interviews.
Our YLF Legends Programme currently support over 170 young people across Kent and Medway which wouldn’t be possible without our brilliant volunteers who provide a fun, supportive and safe setting for young people to engage in new, exciting opportunities and experiences.
YLF celebrated with its volunteers, supporters and those who have helped to fundraise for us – whom without, we could not operate. We hosted a bbq with live music for all to enjoy, to thank them for the time and hard work they give throughout the whole year!

Without our volunteers we would not be able to support and make a difference to so many young people all across the county! Once again, from everyone at YLF – THANKYOU!
We are experiencing a huge increase in demand for our services and continue to see growing waiting lists. Young people in our community need YOU and we are calling out for more volunteers to join our team!
