There are several opportunities at YLF where your time and support as a volunteer will make a huge difference to a young person's life...

BefriendingBefrienders (Independent Visitors)

Volunteer befrienders visit, advise and befriend young people in care and take a long-term interest in their well-being and development. In doing this, they act as 'independent visitors' for the young people, a role defined in the Children Act 1989.

MentoringMentors

Volunteer mentors motivate, guide and assist young people considered to be at risk of offending, socially excluded or in need of support. They support young people and their families to achieve goals such as improved relationships within the home, reduced anti-social behaviour, improved educational attainment or taking part in positive activities.

MentoringAppropriate Adults

Volunteer appropriate adults support young people or vulnerable adults, in Kent Police custody suites when parents or carers are not available. They ensure that those detained by the police understand their rights and act on behalf of the detained person to protect those rights if necessary.

Accompanying AdultsAccompanying Adults

When a local authority does not accept what an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child says about their age, two social workers undertake an age assessment. Volunteer accompanying adults act independently from the local authority to ensure that age assessment interviews are conducted properly and fairly.
